I think the reason moderates have a bugaboo about the Insurgent Left is that many of its members are just mean. Like needlessly mean, combative, accusatory, and bullying. Many of us oldies remember how mean Sanders and his supporters were during the 2016 primary. That casts a long shadow.

I do not mean this as a "both sides-ism" but there is a striking similarity between this article and the arguments made about Trump by the center-right commentariat of yore (back when incredulous defenses of his sanity were still possible).

Matt cites the ability of Mamdani to ditch unpopular opinions as a virtue and even says of the insurgent left "I do think their strong leader model and appetite for risk mean they have more upside." That is a near-perfect summary of optimistic takes on Trump and Trumpism.
